Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos resgins from Parliament | ABC News

Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos has resigned, in the wake of Premier Daniel Andrews' testimony to the hotel quarantine inquiry in which he said she was responsible for the program. In a statement posted to social media Ms Mikakos said she had written to Victoria's Governor to resign as minister, and will also be resigning from the Parliament. But she defended her handling of the pandemic, and said she disagreed with parts of Mr Andrews statement to the inquiry. (Sept. 23) Watch live as protesters in Louisville, Kentucky, demonstrate on Wednesday, September 23, following a grand jury’s decision to indict one of three officers involved in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor. Former Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officer Brett Hankison was charged with three counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree; his bond was set at $15,000. Hankison was fired from the police force on June 23 for his role in the shooting death of Taylor. Sgt Jonathan Mattingly and detective Myles Cosgrove, the other two officers who fired their weapons while trying to serve a search warrant on Taylor’s apartment in the early hours of March 13, were not charged. The LMPD declared a state of emergency on Monday in preparation for the grand jury announcement and canceled officers’ vacation and planned leave “until further notice,” reports said. Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer put a 72-hour curfew in place for Louisville, and LMPD interim Chief Robert Schroeder confirmed that

Coronavirus: Trudeau says 2nd wave of COVID-19 "already underway" in parts of Canada | FULL

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made an urgent address to Canadians on Wednesday night, telling them that Canada is “on the brink” of a coronavirus surge. Trudeau urged Canadians to stick to their social bubbles, wear a mask, wash their hands frequently and keep their distance from other people as the country faces down a looming second wave of the virus that has already claimed 9,238 lives as of this writing. In a speech to the nation on all major broadcasters Wednesday evening, Trudeau warned the daily case counts are already much higher than they were when the country first locked down in March. In Canada’s four biggest provinces, the second wave isn’t just starting, it’s already underway. “The numbers are clear — back on March 13th when we went into lockdown there were 47 new cases of COVID-19. Yesterday alone, we had well over 1,000,” Trudeau said. “We’re on the brink of a fall that could be much worse than the spring.” For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/7354511/cana

‘Sleepy Joe Biden’ goes missing on RBG death

The now vacant US Supreme Court seat is expected to be one of the most critical issues in the upcoming November election, but there’s been no word from “Sleepy Joe,” according to Sky News host James Morrow. Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court Ruth Bader Ginsburg died over the weekend aged 87 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. President Donald Trump praised the progressive icon upon hearing the news of her death after a campaign rally. The vacant seat is set to become a massive political battle, as the President has already indicated he intends to nominate a replacement merely six weeks before the election. Mr Morrow said the Democrats are performing poorly on this burgeoning issue highlighted by the contrast in reactions by the two candidates. “We haven’t heard anything from Sleepy Joe,” he said. “While Trump is out their giving rallies and talking about this, the day after RBG (Ruth Bader Ginsburg) dies … Biden was having the day off. “They’ve got a candidate who can’t do

Covid-19 anti-lockdown protest sees hundreds gather in London's Trafalgar Square

Anti-lockdown conspiracy theorists took to Trafalgar Square today where hundreds of protesters clashed with police as fighting erupted by the National Gallery. Angry demonstrators defied Boris Johnson's coronavirus laws as they scrambled onto Nelson's Column and stood shoulder to shoulder in the central London square. Officers and riot police moved in on crowds of people armed with placards and banners which read, "scam", "this is now tyranny" and "freedom over fear." HE JUST LEARNED: President Trump Reacts to News of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's Death

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died at 87 of metastatic pancreatic cancer, according to the court. She was the oldest sitting member. Chief Justice John Roberts mourned Ginsburg’s passing. “Our Nation has lost a jurist of historic stature. We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague. Today we mourn, but with confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her — a tireless and resolute champion of justice,” Roberts said in a statement. Ginsburg had announced in July that she was undergoing chemotherapy treatment for lesions on her liver, the latest of her several battles with cancer. Born Joan Ruth Bader on March 15, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the youngest of two children to Nathan and Celia Bader. It was when Ginsburg was in kindergarten that she decided to go by her middle name Ruth, according to Encyclopedia Britannica. Ginsburg grew up in a low-income, working-class neighborhood of Brooklyn, where her father worked as a merchant a

However, it’s also a story that in modern Australia she shouldn’t need to tell. It’s about decent people in the country who are dying because of a rural health system that's broken and failing them. They are people like Liz’s precious dad. For many years Bryan Ryan was a farmer who lived near Taree, north of Newcastle in NSW. He was 88 years old when he died a year ago, but it’s highly likely he’d still be alive today if not for a catastrophic medical error that occurred while he was being treated in the rural health system. As Liz reveals, what happened to her dad, Bryan Ryan, is inexcusable but it's just one of many cases that are as heart-breaking as they are tragic. The concept was simple — gather a bunch of living, breathing bodies in the same place at the same time and just see what happens. And if my friends wanted me to be on time to a party, they’d lie. How I know that 3 pm and 3:05 pm are technically different, but I personally don’t perceive that contrast. I tried my best to banish those thoughts. I bought clocks and set them to five minutes early. And I was finally closing the gap — becoming one of those people who holds the reins of time. And then — the pandemic happened. And suddenly Tuesdays were Thursdays were Sundays. The whole world joined me in temporal disorientation — even my punctual superiors were at a loss. They knew how t

NFAC returns to Louisville, protest ends early

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It was a march to Churchill Downs and a message to Metro Police. The NFAC (Not F****** Around Coalition) is back in Louisville five weeks later, on Derby day, urging police to use force from across the fence, but their plans at the track abruptly ended before the race. “And one of our concerns was we will not allow the NFAC to be sandwiched between protesters and the police.” That’s was Grand Master Jay said local and state leaders promised after organizing their presence in town. “If we show up without any announcement, that’s like invading force,” he said. Grandmaster Jay said protesters were not supposed to be near them at Churchill Downs, something WHAS11 News hasn’t heard from Metro Police. “So when I saw that happening, somebody changed the game plan so I pulled my coalition out." "Protesters aren't orderly. Protesters aren't organized. Protesters are emotional. Protesters are destructive where people can sneak in," he explained. The group left and made their way back to GG

Most agencies will not help Portland police with protests

The Gresham Police Department on Tuesday joined the sheriffs in Washington and Clackamas counties and said they will not send officers to Portland to help respond to the nightly protests, some of which have turned violent. Surrounding local law enforcement agencies were called upon by Gov. Kate Brown to support the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) with personnel and resources. It was part of a unified law enforcement plan the governor laid out Sunday night with hopes of ending the violence in Portland while also protecting the free speech of demonstrators. Brown announced her plan the night after a 39-year-old man was shot and killed in downtown Portland near protests. No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting and Portland police say it’s unknown if the incident was politically motivated. The shooting followed a car rally in support of President Donald Trump.
