the people that clean shoes and malls use a special selling strategy known as blowing the symmetry essentially what they do is they lure you in they offer you a free shoe cleaning they then walk you through all the steps of the cleaning process they make it seem super easy and then once they're done cleaning the shoes they compare the shoe that they cleaned versus the one that's not clean this is called blowing the symmetry because essentially when something is dirty we just ignore it but when it's partially clean and partially dirty we can't ignore it any longer we must do something about it
